Counseling for Anxiety

You may have arrived here because…

  • Your mind always goes to the worst-case scenario. Its default setting is “doom and gloom”.

  • You constantly worry about the problems in your life. At the same time, you can’t come up with a plan of action and follow through with it.

  • The feeling of anxiety can be so overwhelming that you want to crawl out of your skin.

  • Racing thoughts keep you up at night, so you feel even more tired and irritable the next day.

  • You know that many of your fears are irrational, and yet you can’t seem to let them go.

If any of these apply to you, I’m glad you’re here. Read on to see if my anxiety counseling services might be helpful for you.

Anxiety Counseling Salt Lake

You get anxiety about your anxiety. It starts to control you. You try to reduce the anxiety by avoiding the situations that trigger it. As a result, you miss out on the things that make life fun and rewarding. Your life gets smaller as the number of things you avoid gets bigger. Maybe you turn to food, alcohol, porn, social media or other distractions. You might counter the negative thoughts with logic or positive self-talk. But no matter what you do, the relief is temporary. The thoughts always come back.

Sometimes you wonder if you’ll always be like this, if there is something wrong with you that can’t be fixed. You feel guilty that your constant irritability or need for emotional support is a burden on others. You see how much of your life energy is being wasted and it’s deflating.

Desperately, you want a break, to feel some peace within, to drop the struggle with life. You want to live your life freely, without having to second guess or overthink everything. You want to connect with people without replaying in your head everything that happened. All that time and energy that you spend dealing with your anxiety you wish could go into things that actually matter to you.

Anxiety Therapy Salt Lake

How I help

The good news is that your anxiety doesn’t mean there is something fundamentally wrong with you. It is simply a sign that you need more effective ways of responding to your anxious thoughts and feelings, and I can help you to learn them.

During the first session, I'll talk with you about the challenges you're having, and the changes you’d like to see. From there, I’ll guide you through a simple exercise meant to help with your specific challenge. In real-time, you’ll find a place of calm amidst the storm of anxiety, and then you’ll get to apply this in your life in between sessions. Therapy with me is an active process, meaning you don’t just talk about your problems while I listen and empathize (though we’ll do that, too). Rather, I’ll walk you through tools that you can apply every day to help you address those problems.

The approach I use is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). It is one of the most well-researched approaches to therapy and, I believe, the most effective. I have trained in it extensively, having completed courses in using ACT for anxiety, depression, and trauma, because I believe that clients deserve the best that therapy has to offer.
